Eskom and energy and chemical company, Sasol, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to "collaboratively discover and study prospective potential liquified natural gas (LNG) requirements".

That is according to a joint statement by the two organizations, following the signing ceremony of the MoU on Friday.

"The collaboration aims to determine the probable volumes that South Africa involves to establish a feasible LNG import market, together with the enabling infrastructure, and will be facilitated by government-to-govt relations exactly where vital."

"This initiative concentrates on applying gas for electric power generation to supply essential base load electric power and position gas as being a vital enabler of re-industrialisation, while also making certain ongoing supply to the industry by unlocking worldwide LNG resources.
